Both in Pisa and Livorno, the Christmas period is full of events, shows and markets that occupy the main streets and squares of the cities.
To celebrate the festivities and to emphasize the atmosphere of joy and care, both cities are decorated with bright decorations and colorful fir trees.
Every year, three huge Christmas trees are set up in the historic center of Pisa: Piazza delle Vettovaglie, Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza Arcivescovado. The floats protagonists of the Viareggio Carnival are made by skilled craftsmen, engineers and designers who work for months. These are big structures in papier mache that despite the complicated architecture are also equipped with motion effects.
Above the floats there is space enough for the many people in costume who sing and dance to the rhythm of music entertaining the public arrived on the promenade to enjoy the show.
The Viareggio Carnival is a tradition since 1873, but the show we know today began to develop in the early ‘900 first with simple wooden floats accompanied by the band, then with the paper mache, the fireworks and disco music.

For one night, the terrace becomes the scene of concerts and DJ sets that, from the stage set up for the occasion, make dance the crowd that gathers there every year.
At midnight are then fired the usual fireworks on the sea.
